SANGEET BAITHAK #42 - ARTISTs OF THE MONTH - JuLY 2024

Madhubanti Sarkar (Vocal)

Madhubanti Sarkar is a versatile hindustani classical vocalist based out of  France.

Born into a family of academicians and musicians, in Calcutta (India), music was ingrained in Madhubanti since her childhood. Madhubanti’s initial training in Hindustani (north Indian) classical vocal music started under the tutelage of her father, Dr. Goutam Kumar Sarkar, a renowned economist, an accomplished singer, and one of the senior disciples of the Indian classical music maestro Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh.

Academics and music went hand in hand as Madhubanti pursued her Master’s degree in International Relations and French from Jadavpur University (Calcutta) alongside the Sangeet Visharad Upadhi, a 5-year advanced course in Hindustani classical vocal music offered by Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith (Lucknow). Academic pursuits and rigorous training in music under renowned music Gurus brought her well deserved accolades at several prestigious music competitions.

Thanks to her rich and diversified training, Madhubanti has specialized in Indian pure classical as well as semi-classical music, mainly Kheyal, Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan, Chaiti, Kajri and Bengali Light Classical.
